Portishead, with a population of 18.000 people, lies on the Bristol Channel. Being situated 16 km northwest from Bristol, the seaside gives the possibility of a great view on the mountains and
valleys of South-Wales. Surrounded by fields, wood and water, the city is an excellent starting point for walking tours, especially for the coast way. Next to the beach, there’s a small lake which serves as a bird sanctuary
and for river journeys. Portishead has at his disposal a swimming pool, a golf club, a yacht port and a new free time centre. The High Street can superiorly be used for a shopping walk. In the evening, a visit of one of the
numerous pubs can be recommend to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere with an English beer.

The federal community of Schweich consists of 18 built-up areas. In the cityof Schweich, also called "gate of the middle-Mosel", and the surroundingcommunities, there live 24.000 inhabitants
today. The history of this cultural region goes back to the Roman age. 2000 years ago, there wasalready a Roman trade way running along the right part of the Mosel in thenorth direction up to the Rhine. After extensiv
excavations, parts of Romanmansions could be reconstructed. The roots of the Roman viticulture alsodate from this time. Today's holiday region offers attractive freetime-activities on the right and left side of the Mosel, large
forest areas,many objects of interest, a various catering trade and overnight accomodations. The winegrowers cultivate excellent Riesling-wines and theyinvite to a relaxing holiday for the whole family.

In 1992, there was the certification of the partnership in Schweich. Since that time, there were a lot of official and private meetings on both sides. Many friendships were created and are still cultivated. At
the moment, the association counts 96 members. Old and new members meet in irregular intervals to have their “Stammtisch”. The time and place of these meetings can be seen in the “Amtsblatt” (the official weekly
newspaper) of the “Verbandsgemeinde Schweich an der Römischen Weinstraße”.
